Usher in Fall Without Buying New Furniture

Some folks have the luxury of redecorating for each season, but most of us don't. Still, there are ways to add to your decor without breaking the bank.

Incorporate Natural Elements

Gather or purchase inexpensive natural elements such as pine cones and dried grasses to fill containers and put in vases for an autumn vibe. Acorns, branches with colorful leaves and gourds are other natural elements you can arrange as you like to fall-ify your home decor.

Texture-rich Textiles

Check your closets for chunky, nubby couch throws. Maybe Aunt Ethel knitted you that winter-white afghan a few years ago? Perfect fall decor!

Swap Throw Pillows

Throw pillows for your couch or bed tend to be fairly inexpensive, or you can just swap out the pillow covers for an even cheaper changeout.

Simmer Pot

Check your pantry for fall spices—whole cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise. Add them to a small pot of water on the stove. Slice up an orange and add to the water. Bring the concoction to a simmer; it will add a wonderful fall scent to the air.

Autumn-y Fruits & Veggies

Check craft stores or online for inexpensive faux pumpkins, gourds, pomegranates, apples and pears. Or go shopping at your favorite grocery store, and fill a rustic wooden bowl with fall produce.

Keep Color in Mind

Whatever elements you choose, remember to use earthy fall colors: deep orange, red, tan, plum, brown, hunter green. Metallics like copper and brass are good, too.
