PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles are strengthening their edge rusher corps via a draft-day trade, acquiring veteran outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced on Friday.

In exchange for Greenard and a 2026 seventh-rounder (No. 244 overall), the Eagles are sending their third-round, No. 98 overall selection and a 2027 third-rounder to the Vikings.

Additionally, the Eagles are signing Greenard to a four-year extension, keeping him under contract through 2031, according to ESPN. The new contract is reportedly worth $100 million and includes $50 million guaranteed.

Greenard, who turns 29 next month, figures to assume a starting role in an Eagles edge rusher rotation that lost Jaelan Phillips in free agency. The 6-foot-3, 259-pound Greenard started all 17 games for the Vikings in 2024 and just 10 in 2025, as he underwent season-ending left shoulder surgery in mid-December after suffering the injury in early November.

As he gets acquainted with Vic Fangio’s defense, Greenard will look to return to the Pro Bowl form he achieved in 2024. That year, his first with the Vikings, he notched 12 sacks (tied for No. 5 in the NFL), four forced fumbles, three pass breakups, and 18 tackles for loss. In 2025, his production dipped, as he recorded three sacks in 12 games.

Before agreeing to terms on an extension with the Eagles, Greenard had two years remaining on a four-year, $76 million deal he signed with the Vikings in 2024. Prior to his stint in Minnesota, he spent four seasons with the Houston Texans, the team that drafted him in the third round out of Florida in 2020. His best season with the Texans came in a contract year in 2023, when he registered a career-best 12 1/2 sacks.

Greenard is set to join a young Eagles edge rusher room that also features Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt. Howie Roseman has made some other additions to the group since the start of the new league year, including Arnold Ebiketie and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. Phillips, Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari departed in free agency, while Brandon Graham remains unsigned.

The draft weekend trade for Greenard is Roseman’s third such veteran acquisition in the last five years. In 2023, the Eagles traded for D’Andre Swift, the former Detroit Lion, on Day 3 of the draft. The previous year, they acquired A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans on the first night of the draft.
