Dylan Carter, a country music singer and musician who competed in "The Voice" Season 24, died Saturday in a car crash. He was 24 years old.

April 27 (UPI) -- Dylan Carter, a singer and musician who once competed on The Voice, has died.

The Local Voice, a Santee, S.C., nonprofit co-founded by Carter, announced his death in a social media post Sunday.

"Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, his kindness and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen," the organization said.

Carter was an aspiring country music artist who appeared as a contestant in The Voice Season 24.

He performed the Whitney Houston song "I Look to You" as a tribute to his late mother during his audition, earning a four-chair turn from the judges. He chose Reba McEntire as his coach.

Carter was to perform a concert Monday in Moncks Corner, S.C. The town's mayor, Thomas Hamilton Jr., marked Carter's death and paid tribute to the singer on social media.

"Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident," Hamilton said. "As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt."
