Best Places in Asia to Visit this Summer

If you’re considering a far-flung vacation this summer, consider Asia. While parts of Asia can be hot and muggy, others can be quite comfortable.

Swipe through to get ideas for amazing places to visit in Asia this summer.

Gulf of Thailand

For the best summer weather in Thailand, visit islands in the Gulf of Thailand, such as Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, which offer sunny skies and calm seas compared to the rainy Andaman coast. Koh Samui, for example, is known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and dense, mountainous rainforest. Plus, you’ll find plenty of luxury resorts and posh spas.

Cambodia

If you don’t mind warm weather and an occasional rainshower, summer is a good time to visit Cambodia because it’s less crowded. Don’t miss the Buddhist temple Angkor Wat, the largest religious complex in the world. Or visit Kampot and Kep, southern areas known for their relaxing, rustic charm featuring pepper farms, riverside kayaking and the scenic Kep National Park.

Malaysia

For a summer visit to Malaysia, consider Langkawi and Penang on the west coast for a mix of sunshine, culture and nature. There are lovely resorts in Langkawi to enjoy, and Penang is rich in history and delicious street food.

Hokkaido, Japan

Hokkaido is Japan’s northernmost island and it offers much cooler and less-humid summer conditions than the rest of the country, making summer a pleasant time to visit. Don’t miss Shiretoko National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its wild, untouched nature, or visit Hokkaido in late spring for a stunning display of pink Shibazakura (moss phlox). The city of Sapporo is known for hosting the 1972 Winter Olympics and for delicious ramen.

Singapore

This city-state can get quite warm in the summer, but it’s still worth a visit. Spend hot afternoons in air-conditioned shopping malls, museums such as the Asian Civilisations Museum or inside the domes at Gardens by the Bay. After dark, enjoy world-class restaurants and plenty of nightlife.

Gili Islands, Indonesia

A collection of three small islands, the Gilis aren’t too hot in summer, and the days are almost completely rain-free. The seas are calm and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. If you’re into eco-preservation, consider visiting the Turtle Sanctuary on Gili Meno.

Busan, South Korea

Pick June or July to visit this large port city in the southeast part of the county. Busan is known for its beaches, mountains and temples. See the Sea Life Aquarium at Haeundae Beach, while Gwangalli Beach has views of modern Diamond Bridge. Beomeosa Temple, a Buddhist shrine founded in 678 A.D., is at the base of Geumjeong Mountain, which has hiking trails in beautiful forested areas.
